Annually, the 2nd Tuesday in April

(Sandwiched right between April Fool's Day and Tax Day)

This is a special day to put aside the jokes and animosity to honor and recognize how lawyers make our lives better.  From simple wills and traffic violations to family disputes and major corporate acquisitions, we simply could not survive without attorneys.  And yet, too often lawyers are belittled and taken for granted.

 So National Be Kind To Lawyers Day is designed to give a little love to our friends in the bar, and here some suggestions to celebrate this occasion with unbridled enthusiasm:

• Take your favorite lawyer out to lunch.  Be sure youre not on the clock (otherwise you might get a bill for it).

• Send your lawyer a card, a bouquet of flowers or a basket of fruit.

• Promise not to tell a lawyer joke (at least for 24 hours).

• Take your favorite lawyer joke and replace the word "lawyer" with your profession.  Who knows?  It could be even funnier.

• Try to write your own will from scratch.  See?  Its not that easy, is it?

• Blow a kiss to your local courthouse as you drive or walk by.

• Watch one of the following excellent legal movies:

National Face Your Fears Day

Annually, the 2nd Tuesday in October
(Just a couple of weeks before Halloween)

 Americans are a fearful bunch and too often we let our fears cheat us out of enjoying the good things life has to offer.  This special day is all about helping people face and overcome their fears.  Here are some suggestions to celebrate this occasion:

Write down your fear(s), then cut up the piece of paper into a million pieces and throw it away.

• Go out to lunch with a "Fear Fighting Friend" (a close pal).  Together talk about your fears and map out a plan with a specific date to confront your fear.  (A cheering section never hurts.)

• Eat your fear spell out your fear in your favorite food (M&Ms, peanut butter, peas) and then eat it.  There, that wasnt so bad, was it?

• Find other people who share your fear and learn how they have coped, faced and hopefully overcome it.  For example, if you suffer from Americas #1 fear of speaking in public, join a local Toastmasters Club.
